Residential Generators

If you experience long-term power outages, you may want to consider a Residential Standby Generator, especially those that are disabled or sick. These are the perfect options to backup power, where losing power for any extended period of time can be a dire emergency.

A residential standby generator is hooked up to a continuous source of power, such as a natural gas line. These are stationary units that can start one of two ways.

First of all, the standby generator can be started with a push button or can come on automatically when there is a power outage, due to being wired into the house and connected to the source of power. These are wired to turn on automatically and even off in the event power comes back on. There is no need to worry about losing power when you are not home either, as the standby generator is set to be an automatic.

There are several different options for fuel, but you should choose something that is readily available in your area. Most residential standby generators can be used with either natural gas or propane. Most choose to use natural gas, especially if your home is already heated with natural gas.

If your home is a green home, there are solar generators that are available as well. This would mean that your other generators would only serve as a backup, only needed for an occasional boost in battery. There are many different sizes, so no matter how large or small your home is, there is one to meet your needs. They also don't raise taxes since they are not permanent.

One brand that you can rely on is Onan for a durable generator. They sell all sorts from commercial to residential, all sizes needed. They have stand alone or portable ones as well as residential standby generators.

Owning a generator can make life much simpler, especially during those times when the weather may cause you to lose your power, like with heavy snowstorms or hurricanes. It is up to you to determine which one best suits your needs. It also is important to decide whether you want one that is portable.
